Bubble Coral

Plerogyra sinuosa

Origin: Tonga, Fiji

Description:
Bubble corals are easily identified by their large bubble shaped tentacles. The bubbles will inflate when not irritated and look similar to a collection of balloons. They often are green or purple in coloration with small striated patterns on the bubbles. The skeleton has large septa which can often be seen through the flesh when the coral is contracted.

Lighting Requirements:
Bubble corals are naturally found in lower light conditions, though they accepting of a wide range of lighting in the aquarium. Generally lighting should not be a large concern with this coral's placement, most direct lighting placements should be acceptable.

Flow Requirements:
Flow is very important for this particular coral because of it's large fleshy tentacles. Flow should be moderate to low, never enough to irritate the coral or prevent it from fully extending it's tentacles.

Growth:
This coral grows outward from a calcium based skeleton and get quite large in the aquarium. It typically will grow in one continuous segment though it can be split into individual specimens as long each contains it's own mouth.
